Up next in our placement student series is Joe Burke, who sits on our IT team.
Hi, I am Joe and I work in the Tech team on the placement scheme. I really enjoy working at Anson McCade and the balance between professionalism and fun is really good. By the end of the year my goal is to make lots of placements and win the fantasy football league.
I chose to do a placement year because it gives me an advantage as a graduate when looking for jobs. My university lecturers also told us that placement students statistically get better degrees than those who don’t. Probably something to do with learning to wake up before midday!
From this year, I want to:
My first week was class. Our Operations Manager was fundamental in making sure I settled in well and I always knew I could go to her with any problems. There was a steep learning curve and at times it felt overwhelming, but also very rewarding when you finally understand something you have been struggling to grasp.
The toughest thing about this job is finding the right people, and then getting hold of them. Before I joined I thought recruitment was much simpler than it actually is. It actually turns out that even if you do miraculously get on the phone to someone brilliant, sometimes you will never hear from them again.
The part I enjoy the most about working for Anson McCade is the people around me. The office is always a laugh, and there are a lot of characters. Other than that, every now and then you have the opportunity to speak to a true eccentric on the phone and that is always fun.
