First up in our mini-series welcoming our new placement students is Victoria Wilson. Victoria sits in our Human Resources & Operations team and is assisting with Talent Acquisition for our Belfast office, as well as supporting the team in all other key areas.
Hi, I’m Victoria and I study Business Management at Queen’s University Belfast. I started my placement year at Anson McCade in June 2021, with a role in the HR & Operations department.
The pandemic made it very challenging to find a placement, I had been applying to as many as possible throughout the year but had no success. In May 2021, I saw the job advert for Anson McCade on my university portal and it caught my eye. The driven work environment, ability to progress within a placement, and the social culture made the role stand out before any other role I had previously applied to. The first stage of the process was a phone call with my manager Jessica Leathem, and she discussed the role in further detail which confirmed how useful this year would be for my career.
In my placement year, I really want to make as many connections in this industry as possible. My first few weeks at Anson McCade have shown me how valuable that is, especially when considering my future career. I have already begun building up my LinkedIn network, and Anson McCade has really helped me with this. Furthermore, I want to get as much practical experience as possible during this year. I have already noticed a difference in my responsibilities compared to friends who are on placement elsewhere. This has really taught me how to cope under pressure and balance work commitments, which will definitely help me in my final year of university as well.
I have been here for around 6 weeks now, but the time has flown in. I really enjoy the social culture we have, the team nights out are great and have really helped me build relationships with everyone. Although the hours are longer than usual, the days go by fast and I can’t believe how long I’ve been here already. I really recommend anyone searching for a placement to apply to Anson McCade.
