First up in our mini series, is Ed who sits on the IT team and works in Change Management and Human Capital Consulting.
I’m Ed, I am currently doing a placement year in between my 2nd and 3rd years of university. I go to Brunel University and am studying Politics.
I chose to do a placement year because I felt like it would greatly boost my chances of getting a graduate job after university and also it would help to work out potentially what I would like to do afterwards as well. I chose to apply for Anson McCade and recruitment consultancies more generally because of the high intensity and sales side of things which is something I was particularly interested to learn more about.
Being a bit of an introvert I wanted to put myself into a position where I wasn’t comfortable and would have to challenge myself on a daily basis by actively going out and speaking to new people all day, every day. At first I found it quite challenging, not just the fact I was speaking to professional people in a professional environment, something I was not used to, but also because of the volume of information I had to try and understand. The quantity of roles and clients was extremely daunting at first but over time it all started to make sense and I now feel relatively comfortable discussing the areas I am working on.
Overall it was extremely easy to settle into Anson McCade and everyone was extremely accommodating and willing to take time out of their own work to help me with any questions I had which, in a commission based job like this, means potentially sacrificing part of their pay. The training plan that myself and the other interns undertook in the first couple of weeks was extremely helpful and made the transition into the actual job as seamless as it could be.
