What a year!
I cannot recommend a placement year in recruitment enough.
Compared to some of my friends who are also currently doing a year in industry, Anson McCade have given me so much responsibility which in turn has meant that the amount I have learnt about recruitment and other industries has been far beyond what I could have expected.
That is not to say it has been plain sailing. Turning up late on the first day didn’t exactly kick things off to the best of starts and the occasional candidate pulling out of interviews proved to be a challenge as well. However, the management team and general network across the company help to ensure that you’re supported in those tougher times so that you learn from your mistakes.
I think my highlight was probably writing that first billing on the board knowing that you had contributed not just to the company but also to that person who I had helped take a step forward in their career.
A piece of advice that I would give to any second year students thinking about taking a placement is to give Anson McCade a go. It’s a fast paced, dynamic environment where you will be at the forefront of the business, given responsibility that most graduate roles struggle to give you, and most importantly you aren’t treated like an intern.
