Summary of the Cloud Platform Engineer role

  • This role sits within our AWS / GCP / Cloud Platform Team, responsible for building and maintaining cloud platforms and related services that facilitate development teams' leverage of Public Cloud resources. You will assist with the enablement of internal engineering groups leveraging the cloud in a secure, scalable and reliable manner following best practices in regard to identity and access management, multi-account architecture, governance, network design, data security and logging.
  • This is a unique permanent opportunity offering up to £75,000, with a generous package of up to 15% bonus, a generous pension contribution, private healthcare and much more.

The Cloud Platform Engineer role

  • Assuming the lead position amongst architects and other team members in the development and build of cloud services that meet the needs of the firm's product development function
  • Developing automated processes to prevent and fix issues that may impact service availability
  • Developing, documenting and operating toolkits for the provision and management of cloud infrastructure
  • Staying updated with the latest industry trends and understanding where new tech can be implemented to assist with meeting business objectives
  • Working collaboratively as part of the wider Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team to provide operations support for AWS accounts, partaking in an on-call rota offering third line cloud platform support
  • Identifying and delivering improvements in a range of areas such as cost savings, reliability and security; taking ownership and driving said improvements to completion
  • Working alongside and helping to lead a virtual team in delivering business unit requirements
  • Assisting in identification and promotion of priority workloads with the wider Cloud function
  • Partaking in Scrum sessions with on-site teams and participating in wider team strategy decisions
  • Communicating effectively with internal customers, management and other Enterprise Cloud teams worldwide
  • Working collaboratively with cloud architecture and product engineering teams in order to translate complex technical requirements and define infrastructure alterations
  • Conducting meetings with internal cloud stakeholders/customers, negotiating expectations
  • Providing metrics surrounding stability, reliability and performance of infrastructure
  • Developing a firm knowledge of the organisation's business strategies and product portfolio

Requirements for the Cloud Platform Engineer role

  • Relevant degree or work experience
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant technology experience
  • Previous experience leading cross functional teams
  • Experience in writing clean code - Python and Boto3 preferred
  • Previous experience with IaC and/or Terraform
  • Knowledge of public cloud service providers, specifically AWS / Amazon Web Services, as well as GCP / Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure
  • Previous experience in the automation of software build, deployment and server configuration management using Jenkins, Git, or Terraform
  • Knowledge and experience of Agile methodologies within platform development
  • Skilled in DevOps and automation of software testing, delivery and infrastructure changes
  • Ability to translate technical direction into functional solutions
  • Ability to work effectively in a global team, managing numerous priorities whilst collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Proven ability to investigate complex issues across various technologies and driving said investigations to correction
  • Experience in developing IaaS development toolkits is highly beneficial, as well as experience working within an existing SRE team
  • Previous experience with any public/private cloud technologies/services is preferable, particularly federation and STS services, IAM policies, Lambda and step functions and Bastion services
  • Expertise in Windows and Linux system administration, databases (relational and NoSQL), and networking infrastructure and services (routing, switching, DNS, NTP) also advantageous
