About the Role:

We're seeking a skilled Data Engineer with extensive experience in Microsoft Azure to support our client, a prominent organisation in the UK Rail industry. The role involves designing and implementing data solutions that drive critical business decisions, optimising data pipelines, and ensuring data integrity and accessibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Implement Data Pipelines: Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and other Azure tools.
  • Data Integration and Transformation: Integrate data from multiple sources and transform it to serve business intelligence, reporting, and analytics needs.
  • Data Storage Solutions: Work with Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Database, and other storage solutions to manage large volumes of data.
  • Collaboration: Partner closely with data analysts, data scientists, and stakeholders across departments to understand and fulfil data requirements.
  • Optimize and Maintain Data Infrastructure: Ensure the infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and meets industry standards, especially with the demands and standards of the rail industry.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Microsoft Azure: Proficiency in Azure services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, and Azure Data Lake.
  • Data Engineering: Strong experience in data engineering with skills in data integration, ETL processes, and pipeline development.
  • SQL and Python: Advanced skills in SQL and Python for data manipulation and querying.
  • Data Modelling and Architecture: Familiarity with data modelling, schema design, and best practices for data storage and retrieval.
  • Rail Industry Experience (desirable): Familiarity with data requirements and challenges within the UK Rail industry is a plus.
