We’re hiring on behalf of a major defence and aerospace organisation, seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join their high-impact team based in Bolton. This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the forefront of UK defence technology, contributing to mission-critical systems that protect national interests.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain software in C++ and C# for mission-critical systems
• Contribute to all phases of the software lifecycle, including requirements capture, implementation, testing, and support
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand multi-subsystem functionality
• Apply Agile (Scrum) methodologies to deliver robust and scalable software solutions
• Support integration, verification, and delivery of software into operational environments
• Participate in service support and continuous improvement initiatives
Key Skills & Expertise
• Proven experience in software engineering using C++ and C#
• Understanding of system-wide impacts and integration challenges
• Familiarity with Agile development processes (e.g., Scrum)
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• British Citizenship or Dual National (with UK citizenship) – essential due to security clearance requirements
Desirable Skills
• Exposure to Windows OS lockdown and secure computing environments
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and practices
• Background in defence, aerospace, or similarly regulated industries
• Ability to work effectively in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams
The Package
• Base salary up to £64,000 depending on experience
• Company bonus up to £2,500
• 14% total pension contribution (employer and employee)
