Anson McCade is a leading recruitment and transformation consultancy, partnering with a globally renowned organisation delivering secure technology services across national security and defence. We are currently supporting them in the search for a Linux Engineer to join a growing infrastructure team supporting live services within a high-security environment.
This is a customer-facing, hands-on technical role, best suited to someone with strong Linux systems knowledge, automation experience, and the desire to continuously upskill in emerging technologies and DevOps tools. You will work alongside a team of collaborative engineers focused on both day-to-day support and modernisation of the estate.
As a Linux Engineer, you will:

Manage and resolve support tickets, incidents and service requests to maintain system SLAs/KPIs

Configure, build and support Linux servers (RHEL, Debian, Solaris) across production and dev/test environments

Deliver improvements through automation using Python, Bash, Ansible or similar
-
Support and troubleshoot infrastructure issues related to VMware, storage, and backups
-
Create and maintain detailed documentation and operational guides

Collaborate directly with internal stakeholders and end clients to ensure satisfaction and clear communication

Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative knowledge-sharing environment

Contribute to wider project work focused on modernising and securing critical infrastructure
A successful Linux Engineer will have:
-
Strong experience in Linux systems administration (RHEL 5–9, Debian 10–11, and/or Solaris 10/11)

Scripting or automation skills in Python, Bash, KSH, or Ansible

Understanding of VMWare for virtualised infrastructure (e.g. host deployment, affinity rules)
-
Familiarity with backup solutions (e.g. NetApp, Cohesity, SAN/NAS environments)
-
Exposure to infrastructure security principles (encryption, certificates, AV tools)

Ability to diagnose and resolve system performance issues effectively
-
An analytical mindset and a proactive attitude toward system improvement and documentation
Key Requirements:

Must hold current SC clearance and be eligible for DV
-
Must be comfortable with full on-site work initially (WFH flexibility considered once embedded)

Comfortable working 37 hours/week across split shifts (07:00–15:30 or 10:30–19:00, Mon–Fri)
