A market-leading consulting firm is expanding its Defence Consulting practice and seeking a highly capable Senior Manager to support its growing portfolio of Ministry of Defence (MoD) programmes.

This role sits within a high-impact team of 80–90 professionals spanning strategy, operations, technology, procurement, and finance - focused on solving some of the most complex challenges in the UK defence and national security sector.

The practice advises government clients on transformation programmes, operating model design, strategic policy, cost optimisation, and investment planning. It is particularly suited to individuals who combine strong consulting acumen with experience leading large-scale engagements across defence and national security portfolios.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Manager, you will lead the delivery of high-profile, end-to-end consulting programmes and operate as a trusted advisor to senior government stakeholders. This is a delivery-focused role, but one that also requires a commercial mindset, leadership of multidisciplinary teams, and contribution to the wider business development agenda.

You will be expected to:

• Act as the primary interface with senior stakeholders and client leadership teams.
• Structure and deliver complex programmes of work across areas such as strategy, operating model design, policy development, bid and proposal support, cost management, and investment case development.
• Bring methodological rigour and sector insight to solving client problems—while adapting approaches to fast-moving and sensitive environments.
• Shape propositions and support growth by contributing to bid teams and leading on proposal work.
• Build capability internally through coaching and mentoring of junior team members.

Required Profile

• Consulting Experience: Minimum 1 year operating at Senior Manager grade within a top-tier consultancy or recognised defence-focused advisory team.
• Defence Sector Knowledge: Proven experience working within or advising Defence clients. Must be confident navigating the stakeholder landscape and delivering within the governance and regulatory constraints of the public sector.
• Programme Leadership: Demonstrable track record of independently leading large, complex consulting engagements—preferably across strategy, transformation, or organisational change.
• Breadth of Skillset: A well-rounded management consultant, able to operate across multiple domains: strategy, operating model, policy, bids.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Experience engaging directly with senior government and military clients, with the confidence and credibility to challenge constructively and influence decision-making.
• Commercial Acumen: While a personal client portfolio is not required, you must be able to represent the firm in commercial conversations and contribute to business development efforts.
• Desirable: Experience within the nuclear sector, or across major UK defence acquisition, transformation, or policy initiatives.
