About the Role

 

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will take the technical lead on projects that design and deploy bespoke algorithms to tackle complex real-world problems in the defence and national security sector. You’ll define data science approaches, architect solutions end-to-end, and ensure excellence at every stage of delivery.

 

You’ll also mentor and develop talented data scientists, supporting their growth through direct coaching and stretch opportunities.

 

What You’ll Do

 

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of tailored AI solutions for clients in defence and national security.
  • Shape project scope and feasibility in collaboration with commercial and technical stakeholders.
  • Guide best practice in software architecture, data science methods, and project execution.
  • Mentor data scientists both formally and through on-project coaching.
  • Contribute to the company’s reputation as a practical AI leader through teaching, conference speaking, open-source contributions, or client training delivery.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and product teams to deploy solutions rapidly and securely using advanced in-house platforms.

 

What We’re Looking For

 

  • Senior-level experience in data science or a quantitative academic field.
  • Strong programming skills, with the ability to quickly become fluent in Python.
  • Deep knowledge of core data science libraries (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn) and at least one deep learning framework (TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar).
  • High mathematical and statistical competence, with the ability to design new algorithms when needed.
  • Experience leading teams to deliver innovative technical work on time, including project planning and feasibility assessment.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to influence and present to senior stakeholders.
  • A collaborative, growth-focused leadership mindset, with enthusiasm for mentoring others.
