Automation Tester – Public Sector Project

Contract | £600/day Inside IR35 | London / Remote | 7 Months | SC Cleared

Start Date: 1st September 2025

 

Our client, a major technology consultancy known for delivering large-scale digital transformation projects across UK Government, is looking for an experienced QA Automation Engineer to join an ongoing programme with a high-profile public sector department.

You'll be working on a mission-critical platform used by frontline government services. The role sits in an Agile Scrum team within the engineering function, working alongside developers and product teams to define, implement, and drive best-in-class test automation practices.

 

What You'll Be Doing

  • Define acceptance criteria and test coverage with the Product team
  • Build, maintain and run automated test suites using modern frameworks
  • Conduct exploratory and NFR testing across the application stack
  • Create and maintain reusable stubs and mocks to simulate external interfaces
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and overall test strategy
  • Provide test assurance across sprint planning, retrospectives, and delivery milestones
  • Use tools such as Cypress, Selenium, Cucumber, JUnit, Wiremock and more to validate both frontend and backend functionality
  • Champion a test-first approach and quality culture across your Agile team

 

Experience Required

  • 5+ years hands-on automation testing experience in modern Agile environments
  • Strong experience with BDDCypressSeleniumCucumber, and Postman
  • Confident working with GitLabDockerJenkinsSonarQube, and Splunk
  • Proficiency in writing and maintaining automated test scripts using Java (TDD)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps principles
  • Understanding of contract testing using frameworks such as PACT (nice to have)
  • Exposure to AWS CloudWatchWiremockHamcrest, and Serenity reporting
  • Experience with scripting on Linux or Windows

 

Must-Have Requirements

  • Current active SC clearance (NPPV3 clearance highly desirable)
  • Ability to hit the ground running in fast-paced Agile teams
  • Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
