DevOps Engineer – Newcastle upon Tyne

Mid to Senior-Level | £50,000 – £80,000 (depending on experience)

We’re growing a world-class engineering team at the heart of Newcastle, and we're looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our high-performance environment. This is an exciting opportunity to have a real impact from day one — driving automation, improving systems reliability, and shaping the future of infrastructure delivery in a fast-paced and intellectually stimulating organisation.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking exceptional engineers with a passion for automation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement. You’ll work closely with development teams and business users to build reliable, scalable, and secure systems that underpin critical business applications.

All applicants must hold a 2:1 or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field from a top-tier UK university.
We particularly welcome candidates from Russell Group institutions, such as Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, Manchester, Edinburgh, Warwick, Bristol, and similar.

Please note: We are unable to offer visa sponsorship. Applicants must have permanent right to work in the UK.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Automating infrastructure deployment and environment provisioning

  • Managing and optimising CI/CD pipelines

  • Developing tooling for monitoring, diagnostics, and observability

  • Delivering automation solutions for end-user processes

  • Working across both Windows and Linux platforms

  • Collaborating closely with developers and infrastructure engineers to improve system reliability and performance

What You’ll Bring

  • Solid scripting experience (e.g. PowerShell, Python, or similar)

  • Experience in one or more programming languages (C#, Java, or Python)

  • Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent

  • Containerisation knowledge (Docker) and orchestration experience (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, etc.)

  • CI/CD pipeline experience (preferably TeamCity)

  • Familiarity with SQL Server and database deployment pipelines

  • Comfortable working across Windows and Linux environments

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset

  • High attention to detail and a proactive, problem-solving attitude

  • Financial services experience is a plus but not required

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Atlassian tools (JIRA, Bitbucket)

  • Artifactory or similar artefact storage

  • Octopus Deploy

  • Static code analysis tools (e.g. SonarQube)

  • Control-M job scheduling

  • Cloud platform experience (Azure, AWS, GCP)

  • VMware (vSphere) and SAN storage

Why Join Us?

  • Impact from day one – your work will directly contribute to critical business outcomes

  • Top-tier colleagues – work alongside experienced professionals who are passionate about doing things properly

  • End-to-end ownership – lead projects and see your work in action

  • Wide technology exposure – we work across cloud, automation, security, DevOps, and infrastructure

  • Challenging problems – solve complex technical challenges that really matter

  • City-centre office – work in the heart of Newcastle in a collaborative and energising space

  • Strong compensation – £50k–£80k based on experience and impact

If you’re a talented DevOps Engineer ready to contribute to something ambitious, while developing your skills and working on meaningful projects — we’d love to hear from you.
